thanks for those kind words - the book you quote from was my favourite of them all - probably because it was the easiest to read - the others made my head hurt, but this book was written how he spoke - his words were intoxicating, he was intoxicating, particular when he was cussing after a few glasses of fire water!!! ;)

It is indeed a wonderful book - his words always need digesting I find, or should I say time to soak in...so many gems hidden within the pages.

Yes, troops in the muddy wetness of the foxholes on the battlefield, just before entering chaos, just before almost certain death or misery...seem to always try to grab a picture, a photo, a rosary, someting to remind them of beauty.
