dance of Autumn...

the dance of Autumn
charmed by the crisp, cool air
alive with a musky
heavy laden scent of what's to come!

imagination dancing...
                               flourishing...
                           preparing...
                          rendering...

challenging the senses
awakening the muse

airing of the stale, old, dead...
reveling in the new
that is illumined by the harvest moon

life quickened before its pending sudden halt
as it lays to rest at winter's edge
where dormant lies the earth
where souls retreat to regain

mother earth will once again be at rest

yet, at this moment
Autumn's joy is felt
with visions of country churches
whose steeples peek through
painted hilltops of gold and crimson

aglow with a morning mist;
a veil delaying the day's entrance for just a little while longer...
while pink swirls attempt to be seen, reaching out
morphing into skies rendered in vivid blues
till late day winds blow
churning skies of grey
tempting to wisk it ALL away
away...
away...

when ALL that is wanted
is for her to stay

Like lovers holding on as long as they can
whose stolen moments
paint the soul

 while holding...
to Autumn's final dance
~
darling, do not go as Autumn does
as she bows once more before a standing ovation
begging an encore

do not go!
stay, as long as you can
rest in these arms
stay...
stay...

let them embrace you like the shroud of Autumn
embraces the earth

if only, for just a little while longer...

HOH-LY SHEE-IT!!! That's all I have breath to say at this moment, Colleen--didn't mean to be rude...

Although your poems of late are still dancing around "she-and-he", word-workings are becoming more profound, and well...HOH-LY....MOH-LY,
Batman!

You can tell I'M IMPRESSED!
Peace, dear Calli.

I have to agree with Steve, Calli. This has images that totally capture the season. I especially love these lines:

"life quickened before its pending sudden halt
as it lays to rest at winter's edge
where dormant lies the earth
where souls retreat to regain

mother earth will once again be at rest
yet, at this moment
Autumn's joy is felt"

Thank you for this one!

You bring color to grey with your beautiful words. Your writing transforms those shades into vibrant and beautiful hues. Loved it!!

Nicely weaved soul hid among the intricacies of words. I loved it.

"A veil delaying the day's entrance". As does your beautiful
poem, Calli. I'm in love with the
image of the church steeple peeking
through gold and crimson hilltops.
Ahhh...wonderful and refreshing!

And then the we get to the Lover,
whose presence may only last a
mere season, but oh what a season,
so worth it, to have one's soul
painted so lovinging and not to
mention so uniquely sexy.

Oh my Calli, this is the epitome of what I want an autumn poem to be. Your phrases are as romantic as the harvest moon itself. Just splendid sis. Just absolutely gorgeous.
